PROactive Clinical Trial Results

The challenge

To support the results presentation of the PROactive Clinical Trial at the 41st annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).

The trial showed, for the first time, that an oral medicine can reduce heart attacks, strokes and premature death in high-risk patients with type 2 diabetes.

This was an innovative and high-risk project as the results needed to be:

  • presented at the venue (The Peace and Friendship Stadium) in Athens

  • simultaneously broadcast and webcast around the world

Slide 'pushing' for On Screen Productions

The support

Commissioned by On Screen Productions, the remit included:

  • supplying show-ready laptops and cue light system

  • advanced PowerPoint editing and production of over 300 slides

  • producing additional slides to help presenters explain complex points

  • production rehearsals in London and Athens

  • on-site slide 'pushing' for the main presentation and the press conference

Subject to a confidentiality agreement and given access to the results weeks before, I worked closely to the brief and liaised with the presenters (professors from five countries), statisticians (from Nottingham Clinical Research) and a medical writer to ensure the slides were ethical and scientifically accurate.

The results

This project concerned commercially sensitive and potentially life-saving trial results that needed to be conveyed to a global audience. It reached:

  • 10,000 registered delegates

  • 20,000 webcast viewers

  • live broadcast to 160+ TV stations

  • viewing figures in excess of 50,000

The pressure was immense but all the objectives were met or exceeded.
